The London Palladium ceremony occurs in less than 24 hours.
A French data firm predicts Lamine Yamal will claim the 2026 Ballon d’Or. Avisia, a data analysis and artificial intelligence company, released projections showing the 19-year-old Barcelona winger holds a 23 percent probability of winning the award. The trophy recognizes the best footballer of the 2025-26 season. Harry Kane follows at 21 percent, while Kylian Mbappe sits at 19 percent. Rodri, the 2024 winner, also holds a 19 percent chance. Lionel Messi rounds out the top five with an 18 percent likelihood of a ninth title.
Bookmakers disagree with the algorithm. Current odds place Kane as the outright favorite with approximately a 70 percent chance of victory. Avisia notes that its models correctly identified the top five contenders for the 2025 award, which Ousmane Dembele won.
Player endorsements remain divided. Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone supports Messi, who recently retired from international competition. "After the World Cup, he played at his age… No doubt about it," Simeone said. Former Italy international Marco Materazzi agreed, stating that Messi is "in a different league" at 38 years old. Jude Bellingham backed Kane, describing him as an honest and hard-working person. Anthony Gordon chose Yamal, calling the Barcelona teammate's development at a young age "ridiculous." Aurelien Tchouameni supported Mbappe, citing the Frenchman's incredible season.
Statistical data favors Mbappe. The Real Madrid forward leads La Liga with 25 goals and the Champions League with 15. He also won the World Cup Golden Boot and set the tournament record with 12 goals. Kane scored 73 goals last season, the highest total since Lionel Messi recorded 82 in 2011-12. However, neither Mbappe nor Kane won a major trophy this year. Mbappe finished third in the World Cup with France, while Kane won the Bundesliga but England placed third in the World Cup.
Yamal holds a distinct advantage in team success. He won the World Cup with Spain and the La Liga title with Barcelona. His personal statistics were limited by injuries, but historical patterns favor title winners. Only four of the last 19 Ballon d’Or recipients failed to win a major tournament such as the Champions League, World Cup, European Championship, or Copa America in their award year. Yamal aims to break the record for the youngest winner, surpassing Brazilian Ronaldo, who was 21 when he won in 1997.
