Halloween falls on Saturday this year, and the PlayStation Store is discounting a run of horror titles that can be finished within the weekend. The store currently lists Resident Evil remakes of 2 and 3, Resident Evil: Requiem, Alien: Isolation, Doki Doki Literature Club, and Until Dawn on sale.
Resident Evil: Village is available at no extra cost through PlayStation's game catalog. Resident Evil VII: Biohazard is also recommended. Resident Evil: Requiem, a new entry released earlier this year, is on sale now. Most of the entries in the series run short enough to finish over a weekend.
The Resident Evil 4 remake follows a playthrough on PS5 after earlier versions on PS2, Wii, Xbox 360, and PS4. The remake recaptures the original while modernizing the gameplay. Resident Evil 6 is the exception in the catalog.
Alien: Isolation follows Amanda Ripley, daughter of Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley, to a station holding the black box from the Nostromo. That ship is where her mother first faced the xenomorph. The setup puts her on a collision course with the alien and other threats. The game treats the xenomorph as a biological weapon the player cannot beat, only outwit, which makes each encounter a matter of running. A sequel arrives next year.
Doki Doki Literature Club opens as a visual novel about a young man who joins a literature club at his friend Sayori's request. The first hour plays as a sweet, silly story. Then something awful happens, and the game shifts into psychological horror. It runs about four hours, and it blends cosmic, psychological, and analog horror. The title was released in 2017.
Until Dawn converts slasher movie tropes into a choose-your-own-adventure where every character can live or die. Multiple endings and story paths support replay. The game shipped in 2015 as a single-player title, but it also works with a group: friends vote on character decisions during play. The title is playable solo or with others across a weekend.
All of the listed games are on sale at the PlayStation Store.
