Early voting in Ohio concluded on Sunday as the final day for citizens to cast ballots before the general election. Long queues formed at county boards of elections across the state, with some voters waiting well past the closing time.

In Franklin County, Demetria Peacher arrived at the polling location around 10 a.m. on Sunday, shortly after attending church. She described a line that extended around the end of the building. Peacher waited approximately three hours to submit her ballot, citing the importance of the upcoming election to her work in the non-profit sector.

"We don't have the funding to do things we'd love to do to help people in just meeting basic needs," Peacher said. Other voters expressed similar concerns about economic pressures. Brad, a cancer patient who requested that his last name be withheld, identified health care costs and accessibility as primary motivators for his early participation.

"Health care is hard to come by, and the current administration makes it so intermittent," Brad stated. He noted that the current political climate often leads to interruptions in treatment coverage. He and other voters indicated they were selecting candidates who promised to reduce living costs that have risen sharply in recent years.

Okema Graham, a voter who expressed fatigue with the current political atmosphere, emphasized a desire for a more positive environment. "Just the rhetoric that we are all dealing with. Just so much negative publicity. We just want to support a positive political environment," Graham said. Despite the early start, traffic remained heavy at many sites. Voters were still standing in line past 6 p.m. on Sunday, more than an hour after the polls officially closed for that day.

Statewide data indicates that the 2026 early vote has already surpassed the total from the 2022 midterm election. A total of 399,918 of Ohio's 8,956,209 registered voters cast early ballots in this cycle. The high turnout reflects sustained engagement from residents across the state who chose to vote ahead of the final date.

Polls will remain open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 3. Residents who have received absentee ballots but have not yet mailed them must take the documents to their county boards of elections before polls close on Monday.
