Bodum USA has ordered the recall of 5.9 million French press coffee makers sold in the United States.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the action on October 29, 2026. The agency cited a risk that the glass carafes could break unexpectedly and cause burn injuries.

Bodum reported receiving 70 complaints regarding broken glass. In 48 of those instances, customers sustained burns. The company stated that the glass can fracture if it is already damaged or cracked. Customers often create these cracks by using metal spoons to stir their coffee.

The affected appliances were sold between 1974 and October 2026. Retailers included Target, Walmart, and Amazon.com. The recall covers several models, including 8-cup presses and 12-cup Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper, and Kenya units. The specific recall number is 27-055.

The company advises owners to stop using metal utensils in the carafes. Customers should also avoid using the device if the glass shows signs of damage. Bodum will provide a plastic stirring spoon to those who contact the firm. A customer service representative told CBS News that the company is not offering refunds for the recalled items.

Consumers can reach Bodum toll-free at 888-879-8213 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday. Additional contact options include email and online portals for further instructions.
