Raúl Gutiérrez says he feels no regret over attending a Club América ceremony, an event that directly contributed to his dismissal as head coach of the Cruz Azul women's team. The Mexican strategist faced a wave of criticism for appearing in the stands at the Estadio Banorte, a venue associated with Cruz Azul's historic rivals. He argues the public reaction was disproportionate to the nature of his attendance.
Gutiérrez explained in a radio interview that his visit was motivated solely by an institutional award recognizing his past playing career. He drew a clear line between this personal honor and his professional duties on the sideline. According to him, the versions circulating in media lacked factual basis and distorted the values of his management.
His contract with the women's squad was formally terminated on October 17. Despite the short tenure, the coach described the experience as highly positive. He noted that the methods implemented during his six official matches established a strong foundation for the team's internal restructuring. He believes the sector requires more focused developmental attention in the country.
The coach also clarified the circumstances surrounding a public apology to Cruz Azul fans. He stated that the club's management explicitly requested the statement. He did not initiate the gesture himself. Given the tension on social media, he considered the move a practical step to move forward with his next professional projects in Mexican soccer.
In his analysis of the current men's league, Gutiérrez predicts a high-intensity final phase. He points to the close parity among teams at the top of the standings. The general leader spot is currently shared by Cruz Azul, América, and Chivas. He argues that having the three most popular clubs tied for first place adds major appeal to the upcoming playoffs.
