Three Generations Barbershop in Homewood is closed following a vehicle collision that damaged the structure. The shop was officially condemned after the incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Sunday.
The owner stated that the driver struck a deer before ramming the building. While no injuries were reported, the physical damage was severe enough to warrant the closure. The shop had been operating in the neighborhood for decades under the ownership of a local figure who built the business over many years.
Lenita Russell, a Homewood resident and patron, expressed shock at the event. "It's just unbelievable, just very unbelievable," she said. "Many years here, I'm just so glad that nobody got hurt." Russell visited the shop two days prior to the crash, noting the positive atmosphere inside.
Community members described the business as a hub for local support. Russell explained that the owner frequently cut hair for neighbors who could not afford it and mentored young men in barbering techniques. "Somebody needs something, he's going to make sure that they got it. That's my thing; that's the first thing that I've seen," she said.
The owner declined to appear on camera for KDKA-TV's Megan Shinn, citing that he was too heartbroken to speak. Russell emphasized the community's desire to continue supporting the shop owner, noting that residents are focused on moving forward and living in the area despite the loss of the building.
The barbershop had served as a place for haircuts and community connection, with the owner known for giving back to Homewood neighbors and mentoring the next generation of barbers.
