One person died and three others were injured in a shooting at Madison Senior High School on Sunday, November 1, at approximately 9:50 p.m. The incident took place during a youth football championship game that was not affiliated with the school.
The fourth victim died at the scene, while the three injured were transported to local hospitals. The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis is currently investigating the incident. Law enforcement has requested that witnesses or anyone with information contact the command post at 618-709-7750 or CrimeStoppers at 866-371-8477.
Lt. Andrew Pierson, the public information officer for the Major Case Squad, urged members of the public to share any details they may have observed. “Someone in that crowd saw something, recorded something, or has heard something since. We are asking those people to come forward,” Pierson said. He noted that a single photo, short video, or specific detail could help move the investigation forward, even if it seems minor.
The Madison school district canceled classes for Monday, November 2, stating that normal operations will resume on Wednesday. The district released a statement expressing sadness over the event, noting that although the game was not sponsored by the district, the violence affects the entire school community.
Counseling and support services will be provided to students and staff members in the days following the shooting. The investigation remains active as officials continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
