The Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers meet on Sunday in Pittsburgh, with the AFC North lead on the line. Both teams enter the game with a 5-2 record. The winner will stand alone at the top of the division as November begins.
This is the second meeting between the two rivals in one month. Cleveland won the first matchup at home in early October. That victory was a last-second upset against a team that had struggled to win on the road. The Browns have now won five straight games, with all five victories decided in the fourth quarter.
Cleveland has not been 6-2 after eight games since 1994. That season was the last time the team held such a strong record at that point, before the franchise moved to Baltimore. Quarterback Deshaun Watson has been a key factor in the team’s late-game success. He leads the league in passer rating and completion rate during the final two minutes of games.
The Steelers are also coming off a strong stretch. Head coach Mike McCarthy is in his first year with the team. Pittsburgh has won three consecutive games since losing to Cleveland. The team has shown resilience late in games, including a 13-point fourth-quarter comeback against Tampa Bay and a close win over the Saints in Paris.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has noted that the offense needs to improve in the red zone. The team has only one rushing touchdown this season, a 50-yard run by Jaylen Warren against Indianapolis. Pittsburgh’s defense remains a strength, allowing just 18 rushing yards against the Saints last week.
For the Browns, protecting Watson is a priority. The team has been inconsistent in the pass rush, but they limited the Steelers to two sacks in the October game. Edge rushers T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Nick Herbig will look to change that. Watt has 18.5 of his 120.5 career sacks recorded against Cleveland.
The Browns’ defense is ranked first in the league with 46 tackles for loss. They also have 20 sacks, placing them sixth in the NFL. Wide receiver Denzel Boston is tied for second in the league with three receptions of at least 40 yards. The game is expected to be close, as both teams have a history of performing well in late-game situations.
