Keyshia Cole faced online criticism after videos circulated showing her managing vocal challenges during two recent performances in Texas. The singer, who is 45, is currently dating rapper Skrilla, a detail that has drawn additional attention to her public appearances.

The controversy began following a show at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on Saturday, October 24. Cole performed at the Majic Under the Stars festival, which was headlined by Babyface. During her set, she played her 2007 hit “Heaven Sent” while encouraging the audience to sing the lyrics along with her.

In one clip, Cole told the crowd, “Can’t hear y’alls. I picked this out again. It’s my birthday, sing with me.” The request came shortly after her 45th birthday on October 15. As the fans sang, she added, “Y’all know I be singing, but come on,” acknowledging her vocal ability while inviting the room to participate.

Another video from the same period showed Cole performing at a Texas Southern University homecoming event. In that clip, she appeared to struggle while attempting a duet with singer Joe. The event took place at Bar 5015 in Houston, where Cole was also seen arriving with the venue owners.

The clips gained traction online around the same time that Cole shared an Instagram Story featuring a new tattoo on Skrilla’s back. The 27-year-old rapper from Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood, who she calls “Zombieland,” recently gained widespread fame with his 2025 single “Doot Doot (6 7).” The track sparked the “6-7” internet trend.

Skrilla has described his musical style as gritty, often depicting his upbringing and admitting to past use of nitrous oxide. Cole captioned the photo of his tattoo, “Ok!! Let that be known.” Fans have expressed concern for Cole’s well-being given the viral nature of the performance clips and the public focus on her relationship.

Cole has not publicly addressed the criticism or the questions about her health. The next scheduled step in the conversation is for fans to continue sharing their reactions on social media while the singer maintains her current relationship profile.
