Glenville Football Offers to Bench 10 Players in Playoff Dispute
Attorneys for Glenville state the team will play the rescheduled game against University School, while the OHSAA maintains the squad is ineligible.

Glenville football attorneys told local reporters on Tuesday that the school is prepared to remove 10 disputed players from the lineup for its upcoming playoff match. James Hardiman, who represents two Glenville athletes, stated that the team accepts the challenge to play. He added, “We will play the game anytime, anywhere.”
The dispute centers on a rescheduled game against University School that was originally set for last Saturday. University School did not appear at the field, choosing instead to wait for court rulings on filings by the Ohio High School Athletic Association, known as the OHSAA. The association argues that Glenville failed to prove the residency of enough students to qualify for the tournament.
According to OHSAA court filings, the Glenville district has not successfully demonstrated that the participating student-athletes belong to the school. The association contends that because unverified players already took the field, the entire team is ineligible for any playoff contest. Glenville lawyers counter that the OHSAA has not proposed sitting the 10 players as a fix, relying solely on the argument that the whole squad should be disqualified due to missing residential data.
In a news release sent out Tuesday, the OHSAA noted that Glenville and Cleveland Metro have submitted conflicting residential documents for numerous players since the middle of last week. The association maintains its position that the documentation is insufficient to validate the team's status in the playoffs.
The Salem Quakers, who expected to face the winner of the Glenville and University School matchup on Friday, are currently on standby. Salem Athletic Director Matt Freeman said the program is “patiently waiting to hear whatever OSHAA decides to do at this point.” The next step involves a judge determining the schedule for the postponed game.
The outcome of the court proceedings will dictate whether Glenville competes with its full roster or with the ten players on the bench. University School remains willing to play once the date is set. Salem’s Friday game against the eventual winner is also subject to the final decision from the OHSAA.
