Allison Albro, 21, faces charges for written threats of assassination and unlawful use of a communication device following a social media post made on Thursday evening. The Volusia County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Secret Service visited her residence that same night.
The post, shared late Thursday, featured a photo of Albro alongside text stating she would attend a presidential rally to shoot him with a Glock handgun. Authorities confirmed she is currently detained in the county jail.
In a Facebook update, Sheriff Mike Chitwood said Albro described the post as a joke. He noted she claimed she did not have access to a Glock or any other firearm and that she never intended to harm anyone. The sheriff advised others considering similar jokes to think twice before posting.
President Trump is scheduled to hold a campaign rally in Daytona Beach this afternoon. The event supports Byron Donalds, Ashley Moody, and Randy Fine, the candidates for governor, Senate, and House of Representatives in Florida, respectively.
Albro’s detention follows the specific allegations of threatening to kill the president via a digital platform. The VSO’s public statement emphasized the nature of the charge as a written threat rather than a physical confrontation.
