A $1 million bond has been set for Lavonte Davis, the 33-year-old Geneva man accused of killing a woman at a home on Austin Rd. in Ashtabula County last month. Davis is currently being held at the Ashtabula County Jail.
Davis faces charges of aggravated murder, murder, and felonious assault. He appeared in court on Oct. 28, where his case was bound over to the Ashtabula County Grand Jury. Geneva Police Chief John Camper stated that Davis murdered the victim inside a residence in the 100 block of Austin Rd. on Oct. 24.
Police responded to the home after receiving a report that a man was cutting himself. Upon arrival, officers heard noises from inside the house along with the sound of a woman screaming. When officers asked the woman to open the door, she said she could not because a man was on top of her.
Chief Camper said officers forced entry and found Davis attacking the woman with what appeared to be a knife. Officers ordered Davis to drop the weapon at gunpoint, and he complied. The woman, whose name has not been released, was transported to a local hospital where she died from her injuries. Davis was also taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police have not released a motive for the attack. The victim was found in the home where the incident occurred, and Davis was the suspect identified by officers during their initial response to the scene.
