A Circle K employee in Stow fired seven shots at a group of men attempting to steal an ATM early Monday morning, according to Stow police. The incident occurred at the gas station located at 750 Steels Corners Road. Officers arrived at the scene at 3:30 a.m. after receiving a call about the disturbance.
Police reported that the suspects arrived in two stolen minivans. They used one van to ram the front of the station, shattering the glass entryway and dislodging the automated teller machine. After the vehicle impact, the group approached the store on foot. The clerk opened fire, and the suspects fled the area.
One suspect, Peirion D. Jackson, ran away on foot. Stow officers apprehended him near the intersection of Steel Corners Road and Wyoga Lake Boulevard in Cuyahoga Falls. At least three other suspects escaped in a second stolen vehicle, described as a brown 1997 Chrysler Town & Country. Police noted the van was missing its rear window and covered in plastic with Ohio plate GSR7033. The vehicle was last seen heading west on Steels Corners Road toward state Route 8.
The white minivan used to smash into the store was abandoned at the scene. Bullet holes were found in a gas pump, a suspect vehicle, and a post supporting the canopy over the pumps. Police stated they do not know if any suspect was struck by a round.
Jackson was booked into the Stow City Jail. He was subsequently arraigned in Stow Municipal Court, where his bond was set at $100,000. He was then transferred to the Summit County Jail.
