Former Vice President Kamala Harris traveled to Georgia this week to urge voters to cast ballots in such large numbers that the results would be difficult to challenge. The two-day visit marked the final stop on a campaign tour spanning seven states as the United States approaches the midterm elections.

Harris criticized President Donald Trump during the trip, describing him as insensitive, corrupt, and incompetent. She referred to him as the chief decorator, a reference to the renovations and gold accents currently visible in the White House. Two years after losing the presidential election, the former vice president used the tour to rally Democratic donors and activists.

During her stops, Harris outlined a set of structural priorities for the Democratic Party. She called for the expansion of the U.S. Supreme Court, statehood for the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, and a reconsideration of the Electoral College. She argued that these measures are necessary to revitalize American democracy and urged her colleagues to govern with decisiveness.

The former California senator also addressed the role of the judiciary in voting rights. In Atlanta, she accused the Supreme Court of hidden racism following its decision to weaken the Voting Rights Act. She noted that this ruling allows Republicans to redraw congressional district lines, which she said often affects districts that elect nonwhite legislators.

Harris emphasized the political importance of the Southern region. She stated that the South is currently in play and that Democrats can win there if they invest in the area. Her tour included visits to early primary states such as Nevada, New Hampshire, and Michigan, as well as Mississippi, where she supported Senate candidate Scott Colom.

In a speech at the Elizabeth Baptist Church in Atlanta, Harris acknowledged the emotional impact of the 2024 election loss on Democratic supporters. She listed anger, depression, and frustration as common feelings among voters in the last year and a half. She encouraged the crowd to transform that anger into action through high participation.

Melinda Johnson, a retired nurse who attended a fundraising gala in Fulton County, said Harris was on the right track. Harris warned that President Trump might attempt to interfere in the Tuesday election. She repeated a slogan popularized by the president, stating that voters simply need to show up in a number large enough to make manipulation impossible.
