Washington, D.C. President Donald Trump traveled from the White House to the Lincoln Memorial on Monday to discuss the completed repairs to the Reflecting Pool. The visit occurred the day before the 2026 midterm elections.
The Interior Department spent months on the restoration project. Trump stated that the pool is now better and more beautiful than it has ever been. He repeated allegations that vandalism played a role in the previous damage to the structure.
Trump addressed the crowd after participating in nearly 30 campaign rallies. He described the upcoming vote as the most important midterm election in a lifetime. He claimed the Democratic Party nominated the most extreme and dangerous slate of candidates in American history.
The president praised the Interior Department staff for their work. He said the agency was incredible and that the administration is proud of the finished project. He did not mention the high cost of living, which pollsters identified as the top issue for voters in this cycle.
Instead of focusing on living costs, Trump highlighted a strong and resilient U.S. economy. He acknowledged the historical trend where the party in power loses seats during midterms. With a narrow majority in Congress, Republicans hope to break that pattern.
Final polls point to strong Democratic performance in the 2026 elections. Voters will decide which party controls Congress for the next two years. Trump left the White House to make his closing remarks at the memorial.
