A local judge set a $1.5 million bond for the 18-year-old accused of killing a Shaker Heights high school student.
Khalil Woods Jr. appeared in Cleveland Municipal Court on Monday, November 2, and entered a not guilty plea to aggravated murder. The judge determined his release conditions at the hearing.
The court process follows the October 26 discovery of the victim's body. Jaiden Tunson, a Shaker Heights resident, was found shot to death near the intersection of E. 130th Street and Buckeye Road in Cleveland. Police have not yet released details regarding a possible motive for the shooting.
Woods was taken into custody on October 31 in University Heights. University Heights Police Chief Dustin Rogers stated that officers stopped a Kia that ran a red light near Warrensville Center and Hillbrook Roads. Rogers said Woods, a passenger in the vehicle, had an outstanding Cleveland police warrant for aggravated murder. Although Rogers noted that Woods initially resisted, officers secured his custody without further incident.
Cleveland police released a photograph of a second suspect on Monday and asked the public to call the Homicide Unit at (216) 623-5464 with information. Woods also faces a recent history with the justice system. He was arrested earlier this year for an aggravated robbery at a high school baseball game. In July, he pleaded guilty to aggravated theft and carrying a concealed weapon, receiving 12 months of community control for each count without prison time.
