MLB: Brewers aim for historic fourth straight win
Milwaukee seeks to join Cincinnati as the only team to sweep the League Championship Series and the World Series in a single season.

The Milwaukee Brewers will take the field tonight against the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 4 of the 2026 World Series, holding a commanding 3-0 series lead. A victory would conclude the postseason for both teams and grant the Brewers their first championship in franchise history. The matchup represents a rare statistical opportunity in Major League Baseball history.
Twenty-one World Series sweeps have been recorded since the league's inception. If the Brewers complete the four-game shutout, they will become the twenty-second team to achieve this feat. The accomplishment would also mark a unique dual-sweep performance. No other organization has swept both the League Championship Series and the World Series in the same year, a distinction previously held only by the 1976 Cincinnati Reds.
The distribution of historical sweeps favors the American League. Thirteen of the twenty-one total sweeps were secured by American League teams. Eight of those thirteen victories were achieved by the New York Yankees. The National League accounts for the remaining eight sweeps in the record books.
Within the National League, the Giants have claimed three of the available sweeps. The Cincinnati Reds have two entries in the list. The most recent prior sweep occurred in 2012, when the San Francisco Giants defeated the Detroit Tigers. Before that, the Boston Red Sox swept the Colorado Rockies in 2007.
The list of swept teams includes the Houston Astros, St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres, Oakland Athletics, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Philadelphia Phillies. The earliest recorded sweep dates to 1907, when the Chicago Cubs defeated the Detroit Tigers. The Brewers' potential win tonight would extend the historical record to twenty-two total occurrences.
